Correct Head Position For Sleep Apnea Helps Prevent Complications

By Diane Howard

It's very important for the brain and other vital organs of the body to be supplied with sufficient amounts of oxygen all the time. There is a type of sleeping disorder that can keep that from happening, and that's why it is regarded by the medical community as a very serious matter. Maintaining correct head position for sleep apnea is so important in order to keep at bay its various complications.

The said medical issue is known to leave the body in a lot of stress. It's exactly due to this why having an elevated blood pressure reading is very much likely. High blood pressure or hypertension can be very damaging to the entire cardiovascular system most especially if it's not put under control. What's more, it is something that can trigger a heart attack or stroke to come into being.

Having high blood pressure all the time is known to cause massive damage to the kidneys, too. The problem with this is that the kidneys are incapable of regenerating themselves. Eventually, what's called end-stage renal disease may come into being. This requires the affected individual to regularly go through dialysis or undergo kidney transplant in order for him or her to stay alive.

Suffering from the said sleeping disorder is considered as a risk factor for heart disease. You don't want to end up with heart disease especially because it is in fact the leading cause of death all over the planet. Sadly, there is no available drug that can make heart disease go away. Worry not because it is very much possible to fend off its worsening.

It can be extremely challenging to keep heart disease from progressing if factors known to aggravate it are around. Needless to say, it's of utmost importance to deal with matters that can cause it to worsen. Too much stress, a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet, cigarette smoking, excessive alcohol intake and sleep apnea are some very common examples.

Being diagnosed with the sleeping disorder is also known to raise one's risk of ending up with diabetes. That's because insulin resistance can stem from failure to get 7 to 9 hours or relaxing sleep every single night. Health experts confirm that insulin resistance can cause the levels of glucose in the blood to increase dramatically. Everyone is well-aware of the fact that high blood glucose is the root cause of diabetes.

No one should take diabetes very lightly. That's because it is something that cannot be treated by any modern-day medication or procedure. So in other words, it is a chronic disease. It's a must to put diabetes under control in order to prevent its many different complications such as nerve damage and foot amputation from coming into being.

Sleep apnea is also linked to unwanted weight gain. Such is due to the fact that not getting plenty of shut-eye at night can cause hormonal imbalance, severe mood changes and a voracious appetite. According to health experts, having lots of excess body pounds can in fact cause the primary problem to end up worse.
